The Minuteman Press organization in Berkeley, California was founded in 1972 as Captain Copy just when commercial photocopying became a real business. The business was located on Telegraph Avenue 2 blocks south of the University of California campus. Over 25,000 students and faculty walked by our front door every day.  We were open 7 days a week 12 hours per day.  We worked around the clock to satisfy the printing needs of the booming campus community and building a great business.

Our store was an early adapter in the personal computer age.  We purchased Apple II Plus machines in 1977 and started a new business inside our store offering word processing services.  We called the business Berkeley Microworks.  This service allowed us to expand to offer publishing services to our printing customers.

We now serve customers throughout the San Francisco East Bay Region.  Cities served include El Cerrito, Albany, Richmond, Emeryville and Oakland.  We serve a broad range of customers: many from The University of California such as the Athletic Department and Library System.  We also handle work for the City of Berkeley.  Other significant customer groups include real estate, non-profits, high tech and Berkeley’s famous gourmet ghetto.

Our company offers a diverse range of services: Offset Printing and Digital Color Printing; High Quality Photocopying; Direct Mail Services; Graphic Design; Book Printing and Publishing.  We win awards year after year for the quality of our work. Researchers from the University of California, Berkeley have presented their work on data-driven image colorization at SIGGRAPH 2017.

The city of Berkeley announced it has its own bike sharing system now. The system currently has 10 stations, with more to come.

Mezzo and Raleighs Bar and Grill are slated to re-open soon on Telegraph Avenue.

The 3rd annual Bay Area Book Festival will be held in June in downtown Berkeley.

The Sports Basement in Berkeley will hold its annual Brew Fest event this year. All proceeds from the event support Bike East Bay, which is an organization that promotes accessible, innovative, and safe bicycling for the community.

Resident of Berkeley may be in line for a rebate under the Brace + Bolt program, which allows them to retrofit their homes to make them more earthquake sturdy.
