Parking garage to open in downtown Wilmington

March 26, 2018 by

About 10 years after the Mid-Town Parking Center fell into disrepair, a new garage has appeared on the spot – or rather, under it. The five-level facility will open to the public soon.

The Mid-Town Parking Center was condemned in 2011, but for years before that, businesses in the area, including The Grand, had stopped advising people to park there even though it was the garage nearest the theater. Theater managers and others were concerned that patrons or their cars could be injured or damaged in the garage. The result was that a centrally located hub providing retail shops, parking, and even a coffee counter was neglected. Mark Fields, The Grand’s executive director, remembers incidents when garage operators locked up and left, leaving cars inside.

Now, the Buccini/Pollin Group has built a new underground garage as part of The Residences at Mid-Town Park, a luxury apartment complex that carries a $75m price tag. The complex offers 200 units in two buildings, which will be preleased starting at the opening. The garage is 50 feet below the level of the street, and has 511 spaces. The first underground garage in Wilmington, it will be operated by Chicago-based parking business SP+.

The new complex will be open next Monday, April 2.

Projects like this can benefit if developers work with a brochure printing company to create a booklet that illustrates the advantages of living in the new complex.
