Magical creatures plan to descend on Wilmington

September 1, 2017 by

Fairies, gnomes, pirates, princesses, trolls, superheroes, or just plain children—everyone is invited to the upcoming Faerie Festival in Wilmington.

The event will feature stories, games, costume parades, enchanted crafts, and tours of the children’s museum. In addition, visitors will be able to buy food from trucks, seek out inventive wares from merchants, and enjoy visits from surprise magical guests, like the Fairy Queen.

There will be lots of free activities including a bounce house, face painting, story time, and crafts. Students from the Wilmington Ballet Academy of the Dance will perform, as will members of the Delaware Arts Conservatory. The Delaware Children’s Theatre will give a performance of ‘Honk!’, which is their first show of the upcoming season. The musical ‘Honk!’ is based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fable ‘The Ugly Duckling’, which is about a supposed duckling who’s teased about his appearance by his barnyard companions, only to turn the tables when it turns out he is a swan.

There will also be a ‘Trollabration’, thanks to the Fierce Dance Academy, and characters from the Delaware Children’s Theatre’s second production, ‘Shrek’, will be in attendance.

The Faerie Festival will be held in Wilmington’s Rockwood Park, located on Washington Street, from noon until 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 17. The event is free.

When an event like this offers a range of activities, organizers can help attendees by working with a flyer printing company to create a handout listing them.
