Art center near Williston Park to hold ceramic workshops

This fall, the Gold Coast Arts Center in Great Neck, just a few miles from Williston Park, will hold a series of ceramics workshops.

The focus of the workshops is on self-expression, crafting and gaining confidence.

The teacher and artist behind the workshops, Jude Amsel, sees them as a way to let people get away from the stress and fast pace of the outside world. She also hopes that people will be able to relax while they work on creating ceramic plates and other pieces of pottery. The workshops can be a good place for people to create custom drinkware, such as mugs.

Each workshop is scheduled to take place right before a big holiday. That means that people can create craft projects and gifts for Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

During each workshop, participants will make their ceramic pieces, then decorate them. They will be able to come back to the arts center after a few days to take their creations home. Along with showing people how to work with clay, Amsel will also introduce students to other techniques such as silk screening.

The workshops cost $35 each for members of the art center. The nonmember cost is $40. All materials and supplies are included in the price. Each workshop will take place from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. The first one is on October 21, then the next two are November 18 and December 9.
