Westerville Community Center to expand

July 15, 2017 by

Changes are afoot in westerville, with its Community Center set to be renovated as part of a $20m expansion.

The building is loved by many residents, but can no longer keep up with the demand for its services. People are limited to 30 minutes on the treadmills, and workouts have to be curtailed because the room is usually constantly booked throughout the day.

Seniors are an important part of Westerville’s community life, and they have been taken into account in the project. The Westerville Senior Center, which is also overcrowded, will close permanently, and move its programs to the new facility.

Among the planned improvements are a new fitness area that will offer as much as 15,000 square feet, which makes it twice as large as the present space. The track will also be expanded. A new gym, complete with an adventure fitness course, will be included, as will a third swimming pool. The new pool will connect to a therapy pool, as well as offering water slides. There will be more space for programs, two new entryways, two new pool-party rooms, and an additional 249 parking spaces, giving the center 626 spots in total.

The current center offers 96,500 square feet, and the improvements will add an additional 63,400 square feet to the total. The renovated center should open late in 2019.
