Musical fun on tap this weekend

May 23, 2013 by

A live session at the Fred Meitzer Theatre will present jazzy sounds from the Eric Verlinde Trio together with a number of lively dance numbers and workshops suitable for the whole family.

This promises to be a fun-filled day filled with activities for everyone. Local print companies may have prepared the poster printing and flyer printing used to promote this music and dance celebration to people in this community and the surrounding regions.

The celebration is taking place at the seniors’ center and is to help celebrate the birthday of the renowned Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson and his contribution to the world of tap dance. There will be a number of professional and local tap dancers, including Redmond’s own tap and swing teacher, performer, and choreographer Lindy Hoppers, who will be on hand to guide people though the program.

The show is produced by Tim Hickey and the performance will include Rusty Frank, who is arriving from Los Angeles, and is a professional dancer, preservationist, choreographer, and the author of the book ‘Tap’. This show features workshops throughout the entire day, so this seems to the place to be for any tap fans.

The cost is $20 per adult, or $18 for children 12 and under. ‘Live Jazz and Dance at the Fred’ will be happening on Saturday, May 25, which is ‘National Tap Dance Day’, starting at 7:00 pm at the Fred Meitzer Theatre within Redmond Senior Center. To learn more about this event, please visit the theater’s website or call the box office for tickets.
