The “Workwell Awards: a Celebration of the Healthy Workplace” luncheon is taking place this February in Tacoma.

The luncheon will be celebration those area workplaces that have made a commitment to having healthy and happy employees by providing opportunities for exercise or sensible eating. This could include holding workout sessions during the workday, an in-house gym or providing only healthy food in vending machines.

Winners must meet the criteria of healthy eating, physical activity and being tobacco-free. These are: Gold, if they have made changes to meet all three; Silver, if they meet two; Bronze, if they meet one; Happy Heart, which is given to a company that has made a long term commitment; and the Active Transportation Advocate Award for companies who encourage their employees to use transportation such as bicycles.

In addition to the lunch, several healthcare vendors are expected to be in attendance; sponsors who have paid $75 receive an exhibitor table. There will be no selling but they will be providing information on their services. It’s likely that many of them will come from all over Pierce County, including nearby Puyallup to showcase their businesses. Local printing companies are often asked to provide items like signs and banners for those participating in such events.

The Workwell Awards will take place at the Pacific Grill Events Center on February 14 from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM. Tickets are $20 in advance for members or $25 at the door and $25 and $30 for non-members. For more information call 253-627-2175.
