Games get going in Olympia

July 25, 2012 by

Seniors in the Olympia area have an opportunity to get active and competitive with the return of an annual games event. Starting tomorrow, July 26, and continuing through Sunday, July 29, the Washington State Senior Games will be held at various locations in Thurston County and Olympia, Washington. For a complete listing of venues and times, visit the event website.

This is the 16th year for the Washington State Senior Games and, this year, the Puget Sound Senior Games is hosting the event, which is the largest multi-sport games exhibition in Washington. An estimated 2,000 seniors are expected to participate in these games and those winning medals will earn passage into the 2013 National Senior Games in Cleveland, Ohio. Out-of-state guests are welcome to participate.
These games were designed to keep seniors healthy and fit, with this year’s sporting events featuring 21 different events, ranging from 8-ball pool to shuffleboard. Registration is required in order to take part and all participants must qualify as Senior Citizens. Participants are reminded that many of these sporting events are outdoors, so appropriate dress, hats, and sunscreen are recommended.

Puget Sound Senior Games is a not-for-profit organization run entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to supplying forums and events that encourage athletic competition and camaraderie. Poster printing and flyer printing may have been used to promote this event to seniors in this community and the surrounding area.
