Kent to give Hope to the homeless

December 6, 2013 by

The grand opening for the Kent Hope Day Center is taking place early in just over a week, having been two years in the making.

The organization is a collaboration between several local churches, community service agencies, individuals, and businesses. It is hoping to raise enough funds to eventually also open an overnight shelter to house homeless women and children. Currently, the Center is still looking for a site manager and case workers, and volunteers are also welcome.

The Center is will be open from 7:00 am – 9:00 pm each day, providing showers, laundry facilities, three meals a day, employment assistance, help with GED tests, computers with internet access, and life skills training. The facility also offers counseling, mentoring, the use of phones and email when needed, a place to receive mail, storage space, and a clothing bank for those in need.

The grand opening event will feature light refreshments and a tour of the facility. Guests are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to help stock the kitchen.

An important opening like this will likely be covered by all Kent media and advertised throughout the area. For help with advertising, local printing companies are often asked to provide products such as flyers or brochures. These can then be distributed in a variety of ways, many which have no extra cost.

The Kent Hope Day Center grand opening is taking place on December 14 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. For more information, visit the KentHope website.
