Fifties classic on show in Everett

‘Some Like it Hot’, a Marilyn Monroe film, beat out the runners up in the screening competition held at the Evergreen Branch Library. Now, people are being invited to come and watch the classic 1959 film as the library offers a free screening.

The comedy classic triumphed over such other suggestions as ‘It Happened One Night’, ‘Annie Hall’, and a few other films in the library’s ‘Best of the Best Film Series’, which was a contest based on the comedies chosen. Some Like it Hot features film actress Marilyn Munroe and is about a saxophonist named Joe and a bassist named Jerry who work in a Chicago Speakeasy during the month of February.

During their time in the city, they witness the Valentine’s Day Massacre and are afraid, so they starting looking for a way out of the city before the mob finds them and kills them. With no money, the only job they can find is with a girl band, so they dress up as women, with the only complication being one falls in love with a member of the girl band, but cannot tell her he is male. Predictably hilarious antics follow.

Admission is free and everyone is invited to attend the screening and enjoy the discussion that follows. The viewing will be held tomorrow, May 22, starting at 6:30 pm at the Evergreen Branch Library located at 9512 Evergreen Way in Everett, Washington, and local film fans should look out for any promotional poster printing that may have been carried out to advertise it.
