Utah Valley residents to put on a stiff upper lip for charity

November 14, 2013 by

Men, women, and children from Orem and other communities throughout the Utah Valley are invited to participate in a one-of-a-kind 5K event this weekend.

The Mustache Dache will be taking place at Thanksgiving Point in nearby Lehi. Poster printing may be on the rise in the area as the organizers of this unique race work to recruit runners and walkers of all ages.

The 5K will benefit the Movember Foundation, a charity that works to spread awareness of a variety of men’s health issues. Male participants will be encouraged to arrive sporting their own natural mustaches, while ladies and kids will be welcome to wear fake facial hair or have artists paint on their mustaches at the event location. The three fastest contenders from each age category will earn prizes. All participants will receive a complementary T-shirt and a mustache-shaped medal.

After the race, attendees will enjoy food, live music, and giveaways. The event will also feature contests for the best mustache and costume. Participants will be dressing up in such guises as former presidents, pirates, and 1970s television characters.

The Mustache Dache will begin at 8:00 am on Saturday, November 16. Interested parties may still register for $35 as individuals or for $40 as members of a team. Packets will be available for pick-up tomorrow at the Scheels sporting goods store in Sandy.

The race will kick off at 3003 North Thanksgiving Way. The adjacent SpringHill Suites hotel will be offering discount rates for participants who would like to stay overnight. Those seeking further information may call (801) 768-2300.
