Musical version of hit Christmas film on SLC stage

Families from Cottonwood Heights and other communities in Northern Utah still have time to catch the theatrical adaptation of a popular holiday film at a venue in Salt Lake City.

Over the next week, the University of Utah’s Pioneer Theatre Company will be continuing its production of ‘Elf—The Musical’. Banner printing may still be on the increase as the coordinators of this performance series work to advertise it around the area.

Like the hit movie of the same name, the musical follows the adventures of Buddy, a man who was raised with elves on the North Pole but decides to travel to New York City in search of his father. Audience members of all ages will no doubt laugh out loud as they watch him attempt to bond with his human family, fall in love, and generally try to make sense of the real world.

This is the first year in which the stage production of Elf has appeared in Utah. Quinn Vanantwerp is starring as Buddy, and the musical also features Martin Vidnovic as Buddy’s father, Daniel Marcus as Santa Claus, and Libby Servais as Buddy’s crush, Jovie. All of these actors have previously played roles on Broadway.

Elf—The Musical began showing on Friday, December 6. With the exception of Sunday, December 22, it will continue daily through Tuesday, December 24. Show times will vary.

Tickets start at $38, although reduced admission is available for school-aged children on Mondays and Tuesdays. Pioneer Theatre is located at 300 South 1400 East. Those interested in attending a performance may call (801) 581-6961.
