W.E.R.K. Day in Wilsonville

April 29, 2012 by

On Saturday, May 12 Wilsonville will be holding its 12th Annual W.E.R.K. Day kicking off at the Wilsonville Community Center located at 7965 Southwest Wilsonville Road, in Wilsonville, Oregon. This event begins at 8 am and will run until around 1 pm.

This annual environmental cleanup event is held annual in May and usually has more than three hundred volunteers out to assist the city with its cleanup efforts throughout the community. Each year, volunteers meet at the Wilsonville Community Center at 8:30 am for a complimentary breakfast omelet courtesy of the Wilsonville Rotary Club. There is also complimentary coffee from Starbucks before the volunteers are dispersed to the various areas that require clean up. Over that past few years, the cleanup has focused on the various city parks, with Memorial Park receiving much of the attention. Memorial Park has a number of trails and areas, so additional attention is required when it comes to removing invasive plants such as blackberry, ivy, and holly or re-barking walking and biking trails. Some volunteers will be required to sand and/or paint picnic tables or soccer goalie posts. For volunteers working this event there is shuttle service to the work sites, which is provided courtesy of SMART. There are also a number of additional goodies for the volunteers courtesy of the city.

Poster printing and other printing services may have been used to advertise this event to the community’s residents. This is a rain or shine event and volunteers are asked to dress for the weather. For more information, please visit the W.E.R.K. Day website, or call Patty at 503-570-1525.
