The Oregon Trail Pitchpipers Barbershop Chorus

April 23, 2012 by

On Thursday, May 17, the Oregon City Public Library will be hosting “The Oregon Trail Pitchpipers”. The Oregon City Public Library is located at 606 John Adams Street in Oregon City, Oregon. This event is scheduled to begin at 7pm, although the doors will be open at 6:45pm.

For more than 47 years, the Oregon Trail Pitchpipers have been Canby’s number one barbershop chorus. At this event, guests will enjoy the chorus through harmony, as well as two quartets. The Oregon Trail Pitchpipers began in 1965 with 17 men who wanted to sing and start to meet at the Canby Grade School. The following week the group had grown to 19 men, and then in 1963 the Lions Group of Canby sponsored the Salem Senataries and a barbershop show was born, taking place at the Canby High School, in the auditorium. This show was so well received the show returned the following year. Soon the men who joined to sing were talking about forming a barbershop group and with the assistance of Wayne Schumacher the group was born. Soon they were performing at venues all around the area and enjoying every minute of it. This group consists of men from all different walks of life, but they all have one thing in common – the love of singing and harmonizing.

Brochures, which may have been printed by local print companies, are available on this group. For more information about this group, visit the Oregon Trail Pitchpipers website, or call Library Manager, Lynda Ackerson at 503-657-3702.
