Marching in and around the Bend for Christmas

December 6, 2013 by

Tomorrow afternoon, the Downtown Bend Business Association and the volunteer Bend Christmas Parade Committee will once again be presenting the city’s traditional parade.

For the last 21 years, the Committee has brought in the Bend Christmas Parade, fulfilling its mission to present and organize an event that captures the Christmas spirit and brings excitement and fun to viewers, as well as participants.

The holiday event will begin, as always, with the pre-parade Jingle Bell Run/Walk, which starts 45 minutes before the parade begins. Proceeds from the race will go to the Center for Orthopedic and Neurologic Research. Parade awards will be presented for outstanding entries in both commercial and non-commercial categories, with individual awards for various themes. Banners for advertising entries may be obtained from local printing companies.

This year’s two-mile parade route starts at the corner of Harmon and Newport, continues east on Newport Avenue, then turns south on Wall Street. After that, it will head west on Riverside Boulevard and move past Drake Park, and then go west on Galveston Avenue. It will end at the corner of Galveston and Harmon, concluding a 90-minute procession.

The parade will be held tomorrow, December 7, starting at 12:00 noon. Although parking in Bend is free for two hours, it is advisable to get to the parade route at least one hour before the start of the procession in order to get a parking place. The parade can be viewed in spots along Riverside Avenue and Wall Street.
