Animal awareness Sparks walkers into action

Animal lovers in Sparks can help out the area’s homeless dogs and cats by taking part in the Nevada Humane Society’s annual ‘Walk for Animals’, which is only a few weeks away.

Participants can enjoy participating in walks encompassing of two miles, pet contests, exhibitors, face painting, music, refreshments, and other fun activities. Canine friends on leashes are welcome to join in the festivities as well.

The event’s goal is to raise $100,000 for animals. It is hoped that walkers will gather donations from friends, family, and co-workers, and anyone contributing at least $30 will receive a special Walk for Animals shirt. Other great prizes will be awarded to people who raise more than the minimum amount of money for animals, including special pampering during the event and access to a the event tent for those who raise over $600.

Local print companies often work with event coordinators in preparing needed materials. Banner printing is a frequent request, as these are often used throughout outdoor venues to signify specific areas and direct traffic.

Those who cannot participate in the walk and still want to offer support can raise funds for the Nevada Humane Society or solicit donations for the NHS dog team, members of whom will strut their stuff during the Walk on May 18.

Registration will be from 8:00 am to 12 noon on the day. The Walk will begin at 9:00 am, and festivities will last through 1:00 pm. To register online, visit the event’s website. Printed registration forms are available throughout the community at local businesses and at the Longley Lane shelter.
