Vero Beach to host Memorial Day ceremony

May 21, 2017 by

Residents of Vero Beach have been issued an invitation to attend the Memorial Day Ceremony, which has been planned for the Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary by the Veterans Council of Indian River County.

The ceremony will open with music supplies courtesy of the Vero Beach High School Band, which will be followed by keynote remarks from Retired US Navy Vice Admiral Alan S. Thompson.

Admiral Thompson has been a longtime resident of the local community, and has been awarded a large number of decorations and medals that recognize the years of his commitment to service in the Navy, and also his efforts that went above and beyond the call of duty.

A memorial wreath will be laid in memory of those who gave their lives for their country, and the function is open to the public. Those who plan on attending are reminded to bring along a folding chair to sit in and to arrive as early as possible. Stationery printers can provide programs and other printed materials for a function such as this.

A special addition has been made to this year’s schedule, with the Boots on the Ground Memorial being presented to the public. Each boot in the display represents a military causality that has occurred since 9-11-2001.

Additional details about the Memorial Day Ceremony, which will take place starting at 9:00 am in the Veterans Memorial Island Sanctuary on May 29, can be found on the Vero Beach community website.
