Well-known Duluth area weather rodent to make his yearly prediction

January 13, 2017 by

An esteemed resident of the Duluth area will once again be making his annual weather forecast, and the public is invited to come and watch him make his decision about how much longer winter will be.

The groundhog named General Beauregard Lee, who is the state’s Official Weather Prognosticator, will be emerging from his burrow on the Yellow River Game Ranch. According to tradition, if he sees his shadow, winter will last another six weeks. If he does not, there will be an early spring.

The General’s prediction will be announced to the world through his Twitter feed. To date, his accuracy rate for forecasting the length of the cold weather is 94%.

A variety of themed promotional products, such as T-shirts, hats, mugs, pens, and more that can be both sold as souvenirs and used to market an event like this can be designed by a printer.

The event will be held at the Yellow River Game Ranch, and there is no admission charge to watch the groundhog. The rest of the facility will be open for visitors to tour, and the regular entry fee of $8 for adults and $7 for children will apply.

The event will be held on Groundhog Day, which falls on February 2 at 4525 Highway 78 in Lilburn. More information about the day has been added to the Explore Gwinnett website.
