West Palm Beach runners come to aid of panthers

December 11, 2016 by

Florida’s state animal, the panther, has been facing some tough times in its native habitat, and people from West Palm Beach are asked to lace up their sneakers to lend it a helping hand.

The route of the Save the Panther 5K race will wind through Dreher Park before finishing up in the zoo. Each person who signs up will receive a free high tech polyester racing shirt, and these are available in sizes for both men and women. They will also be given free admission to the zoo as well as three half-price passes for their friends and family. The top runners in each of the categories will also be presented with a prize for their efforts. A print company can supply a fundraiser such as this with customized race bibs, t-shirts, finish line banners, printed enveloped for race packets and much more.

It is estimated that as few as 160 of these shy big cats left in the wild. The funds raised through the Save the Panther 5K race will be used to help fund the Palm Beach Zoo’s work with Florida Wildlife Corridor to ensure that the panthers are protected and their habitat is as well.

The event will be held on January 7th at the Palm Beach Zoo, starting at 7:30 am. Registration is open and this can be done through the zoo’s website.
