Springtime will be shredding time in Vero Beach

March 26, 2017 by

The Indian River County Solid Waste Disposal District has partnered with Southeast Secure Shredding to lend Vero Beach residents a helping hand with their spring cleaning efforts.

The community has planned a document shredding event that is open and free of charge for all local households. Each vehicle will be able to bring as many as three 35lb bags or boxes of documents and other materials they would like to have shredded for security reasons. The shredded paper will then be recycled into other paper-based materials.

Those who plan on bringing items to the event for disposal are reminded that, while paper clips and staples do not have to be removed, the shredding equipment is not suitable for other objects, such as hanging file folder clips or binders. People are asked to remember to remove items like these as they can cause damage to the blades. Banners and other promotional products can help to let the public know that an activity such as this is taking place so that they can participate.

The event will be taking place on April 8 from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm at Southeast Secure Shredding, which is located at 3910 US Highway 1 in Vero Beach. Additional details and information about both the day, how the shreds will be repurposed, and recycling in general is available on the company’s website.

Vero Beach botanical garden to light up holiday season

November 21, 2016 by

This holiday season, Vero Beach’s McKee Botanical Garden will be hosting two special events.

For the Holidays at McKee, the gardens will be bringing seasonal music performed on a vintage organ, as well as festive decoration and thousands of sparkling lights. It has been rumoured that even Santa and Mrs. Claus may be paying a visit to the facility in person. The Nights of Lights will boast the holiday lights plus pathways lined with luminaires, as well as specially lit ponds and other water features.

A part of events that has always proven to be popular is the large scale model train display. This will be back for another year, and will include a brand new village for it to travel through. Holiday cards and other promotional items can be produced to be sold to raise funds during these types of special events.

The garden’s regular admission prices will be in effect throughout the holiday period. The entry fee for adults is $12, while for seniors it is $11, and for children from the ages of 3 to 12, the price is $8. There will be no admission fee for those ages three and under, nor for McKee members.

The Holidays at McKee celebration will take place from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, from December 21 to 23, and its Night of Lights festivities will be held from December 28 to 30. More information about the events has been posted on the McKee Botanical Garden’s website.
