Port Washington Film Fest goes indie

December 29, 2016 by

Film fans of Port Washington are looking forward to the Film Movement Festival, sponsored by the Port Washington Public Library. The month-long event looks at a broad range of movies outside the standard blockbuster.

The festival is being put on in conjunction with Film Movement, a group that bills itself as a grassroots, direct-to-consumer company offering movies outside the standard Hollywood offering. It takes foreign and indie films and releases them for the American market, providing translations, marketing, and more. It also offers film streaming services for interested consumers.

The monthlong series offers a wide range of indie, foreign, and documentary films. Highlights include ‘Men Go to Battle’ (a comedy about two brothers on opposite sides of the Civil War) ‘My Love, Don’t Cross that River’ (a documentary about a centenarian Korean couple who’ve been married 76 years), and ‘Sea Fog’ (a foreign film about a boat smuggling immigrants from China to Korea). Each includes a short film or music video afterwards and will be followed with a short discussion. Interested parties can get calendars with a full list of movies and dates.

The Film Movement Festival will be held from January 3 to 31 at various times at the Port Washington Public Library, located at 1 Library Dr. Admission is free to the public. Anyone interested in more info should visit the website.
