Madison celebrates Earth Day

April 4, 2017 by

Our calendars tell us that Earth Day is coming soon and Madison has two completely different ways to celebrate it. One will be the Earth Day Challenge and the other will be the Annual Bird & Nature Festival.

The first Earth Day event will be the Madison Friends of Urban Nature (FUN) Annual Bird & Nature Festival. It will actually be an Earth Day, Bird City Day, and an Arbor Day all rolled into one celebration. Kids can enjoy hands-on activities, plant trees, take a short nature walk, and play games. Admission will be free and no registration will be required.

The Earth Day Challenge will be a day when neighborhoods will be cleaning up their local parks. Projects will be held at many locations throughout Madison. Friends and neighbors are invited to come and remove debris, pull weeds, rake, and pick up trash. Gloves, rakes, and garbage bags will be provided. A total of 20 parks will be participating, and preregistration is required to be sure there will be enough tools and supplies for all the volunteers.

The Bird and Nature Festival will be Sunday, April 16, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Warner Park, 2930 North Sherman Avenue here in Madison.

The Madison Earth Day Challenge is scheduled for Saturday, April 22 from 10:00 am until noon. Those interested will want to check the Madison Parks website for locations and times, or look out for any flyers posted around the area.
