Orland Park event to be held in support of a local family in need

August 23, 2017 by

Orland Park residents have been asked to strike back at cancer by taking part in an event in support of a local family coping with this disease.

Andy’s Warriors, which is a group dedicated to lending a helping hand to Andrew Mikal, who was diagnosed in January of 2017 with stage four colorectal cancer, has organized a day of fun and fundraising that will be held at Orland Bowl. Both bowling and food only tickets will be available, and the shoe rental, for those who need it, will be $3.00 each.

In an effort to raise as much as possible during the event, a raffle and an even split draw are also on the agenda for the afternoon. Both individuals and teams will be welcome, and the proceeds from the day will be used to help meet the medical expenses the family has incurred since the receiving the diagnosis in January 2017. Donations will also be most appreciated. A local printer can supply banners and other items that can help to maximize the impact of an effort such as this.

This fundraising event has been planned for the evening of September 23rd, and will be held at 8601 West 159th Street in Orland Park. More information, as well as a link to purchase tickets for the afternoon of bowling, can be found on the Andy’s Warriors website.

Orland Park in a fine mess this summer

June 25, 2017 by

An event that will see participants getting down and dirty has been planned for Orland Park, and everyone 12 or over is welcome to come and join in a day of foam-filled fun.

Pandemonium in the Park will be back for another year, and its organizers noted that it will be bigger and better than ever. People can participate on their own or as part of a larger team, and they will be overcoming an assortment of obstacles as they run along the race’s course. Mud, foam, water and more will be encountered along the way, and each person who is able to meet the challenge and complete their run will receive a specially designed finisher’s medal and shirt. Free slices of Beggars’ pizza will also be available to feed the hungry crowd.

The course for this five-kilometer run or walk will take the participants through Centennial Park West, and everyone over 12 is invited to lace up their runners and participate. Banners, race bibs, business forms and more can be produced by an area printer to help make sure the day is a big hit for all those who take part.

This event has been scheduled to take place on August 12, and anyone who would like to sign up to be involved in the day can do so on the community’s website.

Orland Park hairstylists to cut for a cause

April 30, 2017 by

Domestic violence affects families across the country, and at Hair Cutters Orland Park locations, the public is invited to get their hair cut to make a difference.

The company will be hosting Share a Haircut activities all across the US. Each time someone gets a haircut at any one of its 900 salons, it will donate a certificate that entitles the holder to a free haircut to National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV). The group will then distribute these to those who are recovering from domestic abuse. A local printing company can be called upon to print these types of certificates, as well as any other printed products needed to make sure that an event like this is a success.

It is expected that thousands of these vouchers, which will be given out to women, children and men, will be earned during this event. Last month, the recipient of the Share a Haircut certificates was an organization that helps the homeless, and more than 76,000 were distributed. Whether long or short, curly or straight, all are welcome to come out and get their hair cut for a cause.

The next event will be held tomorrow and Tuesday, May 1 and 2, at the company’s various locations in Orland Park. Additional details, as well as further information about the recipients of the vouchers, can be found on the area’s Patch listing.
