Full-day fundraiser gets underway

May 30, 2017 by

The #ILGive fundraiser, which is held by the Chicago-based organization Forefront, will be taking place for a full 24 hours, starting this evening.

For those who live in McHenry who would like to participate in the fundraiser, there will be one organization located in here that will be taking part in the fundraiser, known as Home of the Sparrow. Home of the Sparrow is a non-profit organization that gives homeless women and children from McHenry County and Northern Illinois support and transitional shelter.

Donations that can be given to Home of the Sparrow range from $25 to $500 or more if patrons choose to donate their own amount rather than selecting a predetermined one. Different amounts will provide different opportunities for the women and the children who are taken care of by the organization; for example, a $25 donation will give a new pair of shoes to a child, while a $500 donation will provide a family with a full month of rent.

For more information on Home of the Sparrow or to find resources such as volunteer applications and event flyers, visit the website. To learn more about the #ILGive fundraiser, which organizations are participating in the fundraiser, or to learn more about the Forefront organization, visit the #ILGiveCommunity website.

Grocer to open location in Crystal Lake

February 16, 2017 by

Mariano’s, a grocery store that serves the Illinois area, has announced that it intends to open a store in Crystal Lake in McHenry County.

Construction of the Mariano’s is planned to happen this year and the store is expected to open in 2018. As of the moment, Mariano’s still has to undergo Crystal Lake’s permit and design process.

Aaron Shepley, the mayor of Crystal Lake, said:

“We are excited to welcome Mariano’s to the Crystal Lake business community. Mariano’s is a premier grocer that offers quality products, variety, exceptional service and convenience, and this is a perfect location for them.”

Mayor Shepley believes that the opening of the Mariano’s will help energize the area, which is an older part of the Route 14 retail corridor in the city. Mariano’s is known for its modern design and amenities, such as sushi and juice bars.

The new Mariano’s store will be taking over the place of the Sears located at 105 Northwest Highway. Continental Properties Company and Sears Holding Corporation have been working with the city to open the location.

Mariano’s is a subsidiary of the company Roundy’s, which operates several grocery stores in Wisconsin and Chicago under retail banners such as Metro Market and Pick n’ Save. More information about Mariano’s can be found at the chain’s official website.
