Lansing hosts economic summit

November 30, 2018 by

The historic Ford Hangar in Lansing was the site of the recent Fall Quarterly Meeting of the Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation (CSEDC). More than 130 guests attended.

The CSEDC is an organization that seeks to identify and mobilize resources in both the public and private sectors to spur economic development, job creation, and increasing prosperity in the Southland area, which is the name given to Chicago’s southern suburbs. The organization has won the HUD Sustainable Communities Grant.

At a meeting earlier this year, members of the CSEDC discussed the ways in which forming the organization has resulted in attracting investment to the region, from sources who might otherwise not choose to consider the area.

At the meeting, the guests learned the history of the Ford Hangar, as well as that of the Lansing Municipal Airport, and also learned how the Village of Lansing has progressed with infrastructure and economic improvements. Speakers from other southern suburbs made similar reports. Organizers of events such as this can work with a flyer printing company to create an agenda for attendees.

The Ford Hangar was built by Henry Ford in 1927. He wanted to use it to display the Ford Trimotor aircraft, but he was also looking for a way to make it easy to travel between the Ford factories in Detroit and those that were located in southland Chicago at the time.
