Evanston men invited to strut their stuff in Centennial Park

An Evanston event will give men, women, and children from the local area the chance to become heroes in the lives of others.

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser will see men donning high heels and wobbling their way along a one-mile long route. The organizers noted that this is to symbolize their support and solidarity with the women and children who will be walking alongside them in their regular shoes. Any guys who would like to participate but do not have any high heels should not worry, as they will be provided for them.

While the goal of the walk is to raise awareness about violence towards women and children, the planners noted that it is also about fun. Prizes will be awarded to the man who wears the most outrageous pair of socks, the person who raises the most money, and the person who struts their stuff along the route with the most enthusiasm. Those who would like to help but can’t join in the stroll can still lend their assistance by making a donation or volunteering for the day. Banners and other promotional products can help to get the word out to the public about an event like this.

October 8 has been selected as the date for this funding and awareness raiser. It will take place in Centennial Park, and all are welcome. More details can be found on its website.

Rock Valley College to host job fair

Later this month, residents of Rockford and nearby areas such as Loves Park will be able to attend a job and internship fair that will be co-hosted by Rock Valley College and Rockford University.

The fair will be open to current students of Rock Valley College and Rockford University, alumni of the universities, or interested members of the public. It is recommended that those who plan to attend dress in professional attire, which will be heavily enforced at the event. They should also bring at least 20 copies of their current résumé, and be prepared to interview with the employers who are at the event.

Additional resources are available online that will help interested individuals with what they need to do prior to, during, and after the event to make the most of it.

The job and internship fair will be taking place on September 27 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Physical Education Center of the Rock Valley College located on 3301 North Mulford Road. There is no registration required and it will be free to attend on the day.
