The 35th annual Norfolk Waterfront Jazz Festival is taking place over two days next month.

The festival attracts some of the most well-known jazz and R & B musicians from around the world. This year is no different; among the acts confirmed to appear at the 2017 festival are Spyro Gyra, Ronnie Laws, Roy Ayers, Euge Groove, The Rippingtons, and Tom Browne.

In addition, there will be a market that will be selling general merchandise and arts and crafts items such as handmade jewelry, clothing, and ceramics. Food and drink will also be available for purchase.

Annual competition chooses the best mini-burgers

December 6, 2016 by

The 2nd annual Nomarama Slider Burger competition is taking place next month in Norfolk, generating funds for the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.

Five restaurants and chefs will be competing to win the Golden Spatula. Those competing this year include Supper Southern Morsels from Norfolk. The other competitors are from Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, the Tidewater area, and Washington, D.C.

The public can make a donation of $20 and will receive a voter’s card. They will get to sample all of the burgers and might also want to buy some beer to go along with it.

Proceeds from this event will help to support the foodbank’s various programs. Some of these include warehouse distribution to approximately 400 partner agencies, a food rescue program for those in desperate need, a mobile pantry that delivers food to people who cannot get out, and the backpack program that supplies school children with a backpack filled with food for the weekend.

It is possible that the competitors may be acknowledged by banners featuring their names which may come from Norfolk print companies.

Nomarama will be held at the O’Connor Brewing Company on January 14 from 2:00 to 7:00 PM. Tickets are $20. To find out more information about this event, call 757-623-2337. To learn more about the food bank, visit its website.
