Budding Torrington actors present adaptation of classic

April 27, 2017 by

Young actors in the Warner Theatre Center for Arts Education (WTCAE) Young Actor Series will be performing an adaptation of the classic musical ‘The Sound of Music’.

This show is from the ‘Getting to Know Series’ by Rodgers and Hammerstein, which is a collection of classic well-known musicals that have been designed for elementary, middle, and junior high youth theater performances. This version is especially designed for younger attention spans but still retains the original elements of the beloved musical.

The story centers around a young postulant who is sent to be a governess for Austrian Captain Von Trapp’s seven children. She and the captain fall in love and marry. Nazis invade Austria during the couple’s honeymoon, and the Captain is to be pressed into service. However, the family escapes over the mountains into Switzerland.

Proud parents will be taking pictures of their budding actors, perhaps to be used for future poster printing and for the children’s acting portfolios.

There will be three performances at the Nancy Marine Studio Theatre in the Warner Theater, 84 Main Street, Torrington. Two of them will be at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm this Saturday, April 29, and the other will be at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 30. Tickets will be $15.50. The Lufkin Family Foundation sponsors the WTCAE Young Actor Series.
