A zombie invasion is heading for the Tacoma area, but there is no need to worry as it is all in fun for a cause.

The Association for the United States Army’s (AUSA) Captain Meriwether Chapter (JBLM) has organized its fourth annual Zombie 5k. Runners will have to navigate the 3.1-mile long course and avoid the ‘undead’ while they do so. Those who are able to make it to the end without being ‘killed’ will have an opportunity to win one of the assortment of prizes that will be awarded.

In addition to the chance to have fun and maybe win a prize, each runner who registers will receive a customized race T-shirt and also a year-long membership in the AUSA. Promotional products such as these shirts can be supplied to an event like this by a local printer. The organizers noted that the event is not suitable for pets, young children, or strollers. Along with the run, there will also be food trucks on site, photos with the zombies.

Monies raised through the day will be used to help fund the activities of the AUSA, which is a group of volunteers that provides an assortment of support, including educational and recreational opportunities, for US soldiers, their spouses, and families. The run has been planned for June 17 in Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood, and more information and a chance to register can be found on its Facebook page.
