Yearly hockey day attracts thousands

Hockey Day Minnesota, an annual hockey celebration that took place late last month in St. Cloud, Minnesota, was extremely successful, according to the youth organizations of the city.

President Mike Petroske of the St. Cloud Youth Hockey Association went into great detail about the success of Hockey Day Minnesota in an article on the St. Cloud Times. He credits the success of the event to ideal weather conditions, a supportive community, and brilliant planning. Although the event was expected to bring in around 5,000 guests, it was stated by FOX Sports North that around 6,300 people showed up for the first youth game and the attendance increased as the day continued.

The event took place on January 20 and the association had been working for approximately four years to get their turn to host hockey day. The success and excitement is reflected in Petroske’s statement:

“We wanted to deliver this experience to this group of kids — from the high school kids to the youth hockey kids — a cool outdoor experience that they’re going to remember for a lifetime. We’ve gotten nothing but positive feedback. We wanted to make this the best Hockey Day Minnesota, and I think we did that.”
