The Missouri Limestone Producers Association, the National Stone, Sand and Gravel Association, and the Miner Alumni Association recently presented a $5,000 scholarship to St. Ann resident Tyler Collier.

Currently a senior at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Collier has been studying in its Mining Engineering Department. During the summers of his college career, he worked at Mississippi Lime Co. and Unimin Corp. and this summer he will be working at Lehigh Hanson as an intern.

Collier was awarded the scholarship for his history of working in the industry, his scholastic achievement, recommendations, and career goals. A team leader for mine operations for Mississippi Lime Co. and someone who has also received this scholarship, Patrick Nichols, said that Collier has been so successful due to his ability to connect with others, the passion he has for the mining profession, and his intellectual curiosity.

Pat Broaddus, a civil engineering graduate of Missouri S&T in 1955, established the scholarship as an educational endeavor for those interested in the aggregates industry. Upper-class students majoring in engineering at Missouri S&T and will be pursuing careers in the aggregates industry are eligible to receive the scholarship.

Poster printing companies can be hired to create posters that can be displayed in key locations so that people can become aware of such scholarships and their importance to the industry.
