The South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education will give the ‘Schools of Excellence In Arts Integration’ Award to the New Prospect Elementary School in Spartanburg County School District One for their ability to make the arts an essential item in the education of the students in the district.

Principal of the school, Jodi Wright, commented that the school is a recipient of the Distinguished Arts Program Grant and an Arts in the Basic Curriculum School, and so is honored to receive the award. The school curriculum includes arts integration activities with the visual art and music teachers, artist in residency programs, and formal arts performances.

The school had to undergo a rigorous application process in order to be considered for the award. Some of the requirements included footage of teaching and learning, student performances, and videos of work done by the students.

The school has received grants from the Distinguished Arts Program funded by the South Carolina Department of Education and the Arts in Basic Curriculum, which enable it to expand opportunities in the arts that would not otherwise have been made available to students through the standard arts curriculum.

The school may be making use of the artistic talents of the students to create posters about this award, which can then be printed by a local printing company and distributed throughout the community.
