Sun Chemical switches to PantoneLIVE

Sun Chemical is moving to PantoneLIVE, the new cloud-based color management services from X-Rite/Pantone LLC. The company is retiring its SmartColour Product and transferring existing customer licenses to its new system. Sun Chemical’s technology and databases underpin the PantoneLIVE product, says chief marketing officer Felipe Mellado, and the company will carry on contributing to the PantoneLIVE initiative as a preferred partner.

Print companies from Spring and elsewhere will have chance to take advantage of the new technology to easily match brands’ spot colors. The PantoneLIVE system will use color definitions derived from real printing processes, substrates and inks, enabling brand owners to be confident in brand color reproduction. Adding Sun Chemical’s digital color communication technology across the workflow process results in accurate proofs and the ability to get proof approval from almost anywhere on the globe.

Generally, says Patrice Aurenty of Sun Chemical, color erros may not be caught till the printing or proofing stage.

“Such mistakes are not only expensive, but they frequently lead to delays in product release and order fulfillment, mounting up losses in sales. PantoneLIVE solves this costly problem by dramatically speeding up color approval by improving press make-ready time and achieving the right color the first time on press.”

This system is expected to make it easy for any printing company or creative to meet brand spot color requirements, with access to Pantone’s information on hundreds of thousands of colors gleaned over more than 50 years in the business. Sun Chemical’s previously announced partnerships will now give way to this new tie-up.
