New shopping opportunity coming to Katy area

A shopping center, to be built at Katy Fort Bend Road and I-10, is in the works.

Designed by Johnson Architects of Dallas and to be called The Shoppes at Parkwest/Katy, it is to be built in proximity to the recently constructed Grand Parkway and the Katy Mills Mall.

Once finished, the 40-acre multipurpose site will offer entertainment options as well as restaurants, in addition to the shopping opportunities. Already, numerous high-profile tenants have made a commitment to the project, among which are BuyBuy Baby, DXL, Kirkland, DSW and Bed, and Bath and Beyond. Moreover, lease negotiations are underway by The Retail Connection for more than 150,000 square feet of space.

Following the construction workers and other contractors, local print companies may be among the first to benefit from the new shopping center, with each tenant likely needing the services of stationery printers.

One reason interest in the new shopping center has been so high is its location, which more than 120,000 vehicles pass by on a daily basis. Additionally, within a five-mile radius of The Shoppes at Parkwest/Katy are approximately 200,000 residents who will have easy access to the new shopping center.

The project was developed through the combined efforts of Medistar Corp., Connected Development Services, and The Retail Connection. The Bank of Ozarks is supplying the financing, and construction will be handled by EMJ Construction.
