Celebration of India coming to Irving

August 18, 2017 by

MainStage Irving-Las Colinas has teamed up with thinkIndia Foundation to create a celebration of all things India.

The two organizations open MainStage Irving’s 2017-2018 season with ‘Rang De! Color Me India!’ The production is a Broadway-style show that gives audience members a chance to experience life in the large Asian country, from walking the streets to hunting for bargains. The production includes music and dancing, and explores festivals, street entertainers, and roadside vendors.

Audience members will be able to enjoy food in the bazaar in the theater’s lobby, where they can also shop. At the end of the evening, attendees will be covered with dyes similar to those found in color runs.

Clayton Cunningham, the MainStage board president, says that the response to the announcement of the theater’s partnership with thinkIndia has been very positive, adding MainStage is looking forward to bringing wonderful Indian artists to Irving audiences. thinkIndia Foundation’s president, K.K. (Ravi) Srinivasan, agrees, saying the play shows how two distinct communities can unite to present something unique.

The event opens September 8 and runs through September 23 at the Dupree Theater in the Irving Arts Center. Evening shows are at 7:30 pm, and Sunday matinees are at 2:30 pm. Tickets are now on sale.

Productions like this can be enhanced if organizers decorate the venue with colorful banners, which move and add to the excitement.
