New coffee shop and beer garden opens in Austin

January 21, 2018 by

Austin locals looking for a place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or a beer after work, all while hanging out with some chickens, now have just that.

Cosmic Coffee and Beer Garden recently opened its doors, just off of South Congress. The cafe and bar is located in a building that was going to become the second location for the Buzz Mill, but that project did not come to fruition.

Instead, Austinites can now enjoy a coffee shop in the daytime, and a beer and cocktail bar in the evening hours. The cafe/bar is located next door to LeRoy & Lewis, a BBQ food truck, which will serve as an anchor for a rotating lineup of other food trucks.

New establishments in an area can use mailing services to let people know about their concept and existence, especially if they are replacing another planned project.

Cosmic Coffee and Beer Garden comes from Paul Oveisi, who might be better known to local as one of the owners of Momo’s. Momo’s was a music venue on Sixth Street that closed in 2011. After that, Oveisi moved up to New York.

His new project combines his experience with hospitality with a newfound interest in sustainability and permaculture. That interest explains the presence of chickens and a vegetable garden in the back of Cosmic Coffee.

The new cafe and bar is open seven days a week, starting at 7:00 am. It closes on midnight Mondays through Thursdays and at 1:00 am on the weekends.
