Marathon Kids Challenge off and running

November 5, 2013 by

The annual Marathon Kids Challenge has started, kicking off with a lap around the Mike A. Myers Track and Field Stadium at University of Texas. During October this year, around 10,000 Austin kids and their families took part in the Austin Kick Off ceremony.

For the 18th year, children are taking part in the challenge, starting with the kick off lap around the University track. The kids taking part will complete the Marathon Kids 26.2 Mile Challenge within six months. According to the National Director of Programs, Erica Gordon, the lap around the track provides an opportunity for the community to encourage the children and show that they can do it.

Volunteers and athletes from the University of Texas encouraged the children by cheering them on, while some parents ran with their kids. Marathon Kids is a non-profit organization that aims to encourage children to be active in order to live a healthier life. The concept is that if children start young, they will continue to have a healthy lifestyle. According to recently released data, more children are taking part this year than ever before.

Seven cities in the US take part in Marathon Kids, with almost 300,000 children taking part. The headquarters are located in Austin. Local stationery printers may be utilized to provide printing services for the non-profit organization, initially to promote the events but also to provide information of the organization’s aims and achievements throughout the year. Events take place throughout the challenge to help the kids taking part.
