Two new shopping centers coming to Tucson area

Town Manager of Marana, Gilbert Davidson, recently announced that the Tucson Premium Outlets will be breaking ground early in 2014 so that the shopping center can be open for business in time for the 2015 holiday season. No doubt banner printing is being used by the town to announce this new development to those in the community.

According to Davidson, this outlet will be one of the larger ones in the area but there will also be many more interesting activities planned in the area in the upcoming months. Although no specific stores have been determined yet, the outlet, which will be located off the Twin Peaks exit of the highway, will be similar to the ones at Wild Horse Pass which is just south of Phoenix. About 2.7 million visitors from Mexico spend about $1 billion in the area of Tucson every year and it is this income on which the Simon Property Group, the owner, plans to capitalize.

Just one exit north of the planned Tucson Premium Outlets another outlet center is expected to break ground. It is located on a 100-acre property in unincorporated Pima County just southwest of the Avra Valley Road interchange.

It is most likely that AWE Talisman will purchase the property from I-10 Avra Valley Mining and Development LLC. This project has the potential to bring $89 million into Pima County over the next 30 years. AWE Talisman operates shopping centers in Santa Fe, Las Vegas and Chicago.
