Scottsdale to cook up food festival

The time is nigh for Scottsdale epicureans to begin whetting their appetites in anticipation of the upcoming 36th annual Scottsdale Culinary Festival.

This six-day gastric extravaganza will host everything from BBQs and hamburger cook-offs to cocktail parties, brunches, and formal multiple-course dinners. More than 100 restaurants and a dozen top chefs will display their culinary expertise to the delight of over 35,000 guests.

Printing companies are likely to be busily turning out menus for the formal events, while the not-so-formal highlight of the festival will be the Great Arizona Picnic, at which guests will be treated to food catered by over 50 restaurants, demonstrations by well-known chefs, specialty tasting venues, and live music.

Another popular eating experience will be the Burger Battle, a gastric contest located in the Scottsville stadium, where 16 chefs with tongs in hand will be vying for the People’s Choice Award, the Judges Award, a spot in the World Burger Championships and bragging rights.

New this year will be An Artist’s Palate, a four-course Italian dinner, served at a mysterious location. Also, an Epicurean Expo will display the latest in cookware, cutlery, and state-of-the-art appliances. Local chefs will be giving demonstrations throughout the afternoon. Closing the gala will be the Best of the Fest five-course dinner.

The Culinary Festival will be held April 8 to 13, at the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 ‘E’ Street, Scottsdale.
