Mesa park to host day of long-distance trail runs

November 10, 2013 by

Fitness enthusiasts from all over the Phoenix area will soon be arriving in Mesa to participate in a set of challenging races.

Next weekend, Aravaipa Running will be hosting the Pass Mountain 50K, 26K, and 12K at Usery Mountain Regional Park. Flyer printing may be on the increase as representatives from the company work to increase awareness of this event.

Each of the three courses will take participants on a winding uphill path, with the two longer races leading athletes into the Tonto National Forest. Runners will have access to water, sports drinks, fruit, and other healthy snacks at several aid stations along the way. Once they have completed the journey, they will be able to enjoy bagels and a variety of hot foods.

The top-performing male and female contenders from each race will earn awards, and will also receive free entrance into a championship run taking place at Mesquite Canyon in March.

The 50K, 26K, and 12K will take place on Saturday, November 16. The 50K will begin at 7:00 am, while the other two races will start at 8:00 am and 8:30 am respectively. Those participating in the 50K will need to cross the finish line by 4:00 pm.

Registration is still open for all three races, with prices starting at $45 per person. Interested parties may reserve spots online or by arriving early on the morning of the event. Volunteers are still needed to help man the aid stations.

Those seeking additional information should consult the Aravaipa Running website or call (602) 828-6629.
