Gilbert to hold STEM-themed Art Walk

February 12, 2014 by

As a means of promoting student interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), SciTech Gilbert will be hosting a STEM themed Ark Walk this weekend.

STEM has grown in reputation in recent years as colleges and universities throughout the country seek to promote interest in these vital areas of study, most specifically as it applies to young women.

Major schools have in recent years begun to address the reduction in the number of women in STEM programs (and number of graduates) by creating events designed to foster interest. To that end, SciTech Gilbert is inviting people of all ages on a STEM themed Art Walk through Water Tower Park. Visitors will find displays of ceramics, photography, woodworking and a variety of other custom-made wares, each with an emphasis on an area of STEM involved in its creation.

In addition to viewing art, visitors will be treated to music from students with the famed School of Rock. Those who wish to do so may bring a picnic lunch. Also, everyone is encouraged to spread the word about the importance of STEM interest, perhaps by having poster printing done by a local printing company and displaying items on a car or building.

The Art Walk will take place this Saturday, February 15, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at Water Town Plaza, 45 West Page Avenue, Gilbert.
