Belk plans expansion in Pineville

The Vice President of Communications for Belk Department Stores, Jessica Graham, announced this month that the company is planning a $5.5 million renovation of its store at the Carolina Place Mall in Pineville, North Carolina.

This comes as a result of a major rebranding campaign, begun in October 2010, when the company introduced a new mission statement and logo and was able to increase profits. The company is no doubt using flyer printing and poster printing to publicize its success and its expansion of the store in Pineville.

According to Graham, the store will have brighter lights, a brighter floor, and a more modern appearance. In addition, the renovation work will mean additional constructions jobs, as well as jobs for the Pineville location itself.

Graham added that the company plans to invest an additional $600 million over the next five years in information technology and e-commerce, training and employee development, and store improvements. Although many retailers are facing tough times, largely due to current economic difficulties, the Belk Department Stores seem to be resisting that trend. Graham said that, in contrast to some other stores, this is a great time for Belk.

Graham attributes Belk’s success at this time to the planning which was done over a year ago in looking at the economy and preparing the business for the trends at the time. This enabled the company to donate over $5 million to non-profit organizations in the Pineville area.

A completion date of next fall is scheduled for the store.
