Gastonia reopens downtown with a 4th of July festival

June 28, 2012 by

With the changing of the times, the city of Gastonia has been evolving as well. There have been quite a few additions to the downtown area and there are even more to come. So many, in fact, that the city is planning a Grand Reopening celebration and ceremony to officially inform the community of the changes that have taken place and that are on the way.

The ceremony will include announcements, ribbon-cutting, and a 10-foot cake for the participants to consume. The ceremony will take place on July 4, 2012, at 2:00 pm but there will be much more to do and see, as the ceremony is only a portion of the daylong celebration, known as the Red White and New Festival.

The merchants of downtown will literally be taking their business to the streets so that the public can shop on the sidewalks and enjoy some of what the vendors have to offer. To take their advertising even further, vendors can invest in business card printing, poster printing, and flyer printing so that participants can take home what they see.

Other events include musical stage performances, a hot dog eating contest, BBQ cook off, catfish cook off, pudding and pie baking contest, hot air balloon rides, car show, carnival rides, and an array of games.

The hours of the festival are going to be from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm, concluding with a fireworks show that will start around 9:00 pm, as it gets dark. The festival has something for people of all ages, so the whole family is invited to come downtown and enjoy the festivities.
