Irish enthusiasts to enjoy parade and festival

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, an ideal way for Fuquay Varina Irish enthusiasts (and those just looking for a good time) to celebrate the day than taking a 20-minute ride for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival.

This year, the parade will start near the Capitol Building along Fayetteville Street and will keep right on going till it gets to City Plaza downtown. As with other years, however, it extends beyond a parade into a festival, with vendors setting up shop all along the parade route selling food, beverages, and Irish wares encompassing clothes, art, music, and instruments. The parade and festival is meant as a family event, with kid centered activities set up along Leprechaun Lane.

Entertainment for the festival will be provided by Carbon Leaf, performing on the Shamrock ‘n Roll stage. Also, pipers and Irish dancers will be performing on the Celtic Street Stage throughout the day. Patrons, especially those of Irish descent, may wish to visit a local print company before arriving to have banner printing done to show off their celebrations of all things Irish.

The parade and festival will be held this Saturday, March 15, from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, in downtown Raleigh. Attendance is free, but parking is limited for what should be a well-attended event.
