The film studio responsible for bringing hit book The Hunger Games to the screen has confirmed that production of the second installment of the hit trilogy has started in Georgia.

Production of ‘Catching Fire’ began on September 10, with Lionsgate saying filming will focus on Atlanta and a number of other locations around it.

The exact filming locations across the state have not yet been confirmed. However, following a casting notice placed on the official film locations site for the city, rumors have surfaced that Savannah could play host to one or more of the scenes.

The announcement is inviting applications for an as yet unnamed project, which will film in Savannah from mid-October through mid-November. It is known that Catching Fire shooting will move to the tropical beaches and jungle location of Hawaii for a December finish.

Scheduled for release in the late fall and early winter of next year, the sequel, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, is set to be another hit. Worldwide, the first movie took more than $700 million at the box office.

The original books by Suzanne Collins have also smashed records. Here in America alone, the books have already sold more than 50 million copies, putting print companies into overdrive.

All types of applicants are being sought for the project being advertised, which was placed on September 9 – the same day Lionsgate confirmed Georgia filming. Applications, which should include one head-and-shoulders photo and one full body shot, can be made online.
