The latest episode of hit sitcom The Office has created something of a stir back home in Savannah, as two of the leading characters sported ‘I love Savannah’ tees.

The retro t-shirts which, carrying on a favorite theme, depicted ‘love’ in the form of the state’s famous peach symbol, appeared in the episode aired April 12.

With more than 4 million viewers, it was not long before social networking sites lit up with requests for the tee.

Following the scene starring Andy Bernard (Ed Helms) and Erin Hannon (Ellie Kemper), many fans of the show took to Twitter, with one, Jonathan Schopp excitedly asking:

“How do we buy those T-shirts that are on the #Office tonight?”

Responding to the sudden attention, the president of Visit Savannah, Joe Marinelli promised that local print companies would be getting the shirts ready for purchase within the week.

With the popularity of the city boosted by its occasional mentions on the show, many other companies have also done well out of the association.

The famous line “you really want is more of a Savannah accent, which is more like molasses just sorta spillin’ out of your mouth.” has been used on stationery printing for example, and most particularly on posters and postcards.

Building on the association more directly though, Mr Marinelli also announced a new retro tee would soon be available:

“We will also have a third shirt available (saying) ‘Savannah loves (peach) ‘The Office’.

Likely to be popular with the sitcom’s fans and residents of the city alike, it could become a best-selling line.
