Poster printing has likely taken place ahead of the 2014 Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival, with local kids playing a huge role this year.

In the 38th running of the annual event, Kennesaw’s downtown will welcome more than 250 stalls. Offering fun and activities for the entire family and homemade gifts to buy, guests will be treated to the usual array of fun entertainment too.

Spread across two stages, those attending the event will be able to enjoy performances from a host of local school and community groups, including the Kennesaw Mountain Cloggers and Little General Cloggers.

Now one of the state’s biggest shows of its kind, the Kennesaw/Big Shanty Festival will once again commemorate the role of the city in the Civil War.

With local favorite locomotive the ‘General’ set to be its usual star attraction, The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History will once again be at the heart of the festival.

The festival’s parade will kick off events for this year. Commencing at 9.30am this Saturday, April 12, from Adams Park, it will feature a plethora of proudly designed floats accompanying the joyful marchers.

Over 2,000 local kids are taking part this year, representing every sporting association and school in and around Kennesaw, as the parade makes its way through downtown. The festivities will continue on Sunday.
