Writing’s on the wall for Sandy job creation

One of the world’s biggest makers of permanent marker pens is coming to Sandy Springs, in a deal that will see somewhere in the region of 40 new jobs come to the city.

Sharpie, the maker of the world’s most popular marker pen, is to open a new office at the Newell Rubbermaid Headquarters. Located on the Glenlake Parkway, business card printing runs including the new address for the departments should be getting underway very shortly.

The recruitment drive for the new positions is to start through the fall.

The move to Sandy Springs will bring Sharpie into the same building as the other Rubbermaid brands, such as Calphalon, Goody, and Levolor.

A newly created state-of-the-art marketing floor has been installed, which will be used to promote the firm’s biggest brand names.

The brands will share marketing expertise, which the parent firm hopes will encourage creativity and see greater collaboration between the teams.

In total, it is expected that the move will see about 60 positions being created in Sandy Springs, as Newell Rubbermaid turns its metro Atlanta HQ into a global creative and innovative hub. However, a number of employees will be transferring from an office in Oakbrook, Illinois

It is not only in marketing that Newell Rubbermaid is looking to appoint new staff, though. There will also be a number of back office position and support roles being advertised over coming months.

The Sharpie plan and the new office is expected to be fully up and running by the end of the year.
