Local firefighters in Star-Spangled head-to-head

Print companies in Sandy Springs may well be getting ready for a round of banner and poster printing, as two local firefighters await the results of a national singing competition.

The competition, which is to lead the essential service in song at its national conference later this year, awards its victor the top honor of singing the American National Anthem at the start of proceedings.

Entering the competition from Sandy Springs is Mark Ware, who is in service with the Fire Rescue Department. He is going up against two other finalists in the competition with a representative from the Henry Country Fire Department, Rodney Brooks.

As well as being rated on their singing talents, the number of votes each local hero attracts on the National Fire Protection Association’s website will be important. Voting for that closed on April 4, with local residents able to select their favorite.

In total, there are three finalists in the competition, ensuring that the best singer gets to sing the rousing Star Spangled Banner at the NFPA’s Conference and Expo. That takes place June 9 – 12 in Las Vegas.

The final three have been chosen from a large number of entries submitted from firefighters across the country. With the winner set to be announced on April 9, Ware and Brooks will be eager to find if their bid has been a blazing success.
