Kissimmee fires up Chili Cook-off

December 13, 2013 by

The 18th annual Kissimmee Sunshine Regional Chili Cook-off Festival is taking place in January. The event is presented by the City of Kissimmee Parks and Recreation Department and has the backing of the International Chili Society.

Several teams will be competing at the festival in three categories of chili: red, verde, and salsa. A whopping $4,000 in cash prizes is up for grabs, and the first prize is $1,500. More than 40 teams competed in the 2013 competition and, with entry open to the general public, more are expected to enter the contest this year. Visitors will have the opportunity to sample the different chilies after the judges make their decisions.

The festival will also feature a beer garden, live musical entertainment, a chili bar, and the Kua Kids Power Zone, which will feature fun activities for children. Vendors will also be on hand to sell a variety of commercial items, arts, and crafts.

In order to draw more attention to themselves at the Kissimmee festival, teams (who will no doubt come from all over the area, including Winter Park), might consider of investing in items such as banners and signs from local printing companies. These items can be any size and can feature the name of the team and possibly the details of their sponsors.

The festival is taking place at Kissimmee Lakefront Park on January 18 from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Admission is free. To find out more about the festival, or how to compete, call 407-935-1412.
